SUMMARY:Winter Tree ID Walk (& Wine) at Glendale Ridge Vineyard
DESCRIPTION:Trees are the biggest plants on our planet and are essential to the well-being of countless forms of life\, helping make existence on Earth possible. \nThe first step in getting to know trees in your area is to learn what species they are. You may know how to identify some trees by their leaves\, but what do you do when those leaves have fallen or are out of reach? Learning to distinguish trees by their bark and buds opens our eyes to a new way of looking at a landscape\, bringing out beautiful details that previously blended into the background. \nJoin us on Saturday\, February 21\, 1:00-2:30 PM for a winter walk at Glendale Ridge Vineyard in Southampton to learn more about the tree species there. Ed Hamel\, co-owner of Glendale Ridge Vineyard\, will lead us on a stroll along the forest path looking at different tree species and identifying them based on bark\, shape\, and buds. \nA farm built in the 1860s\, Glendale Ridge Vineyard has 5 acres of vines that are grown\, processed\, and fermented into estate wines. The grounds overlook Mount Tom and the Seven Sisters range. The winery building has indoor seating where you can purchase wine after the event (by the glass or bottle). \nKestrel worked with Glendale Ridge Vineyard co-owners Ed and Mary Hamel to help conserve 77 acres of their land\, including more than 30 acres of vineyards\, active hay fields\, and woodlands. This area includes trails that have long been used by locals\, and are now available to the public. If you haven’t yet visited\, here’s an opportunity to see the area (and enjoy a glass of wine\, if you like!) \nRegistration is required. Sliding-scale donation welcome.
